Travel

Travel certainly broadens the mind.

In 2003 I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a Churchill Fellow after a tense selection process.

This basically involves you submitting an application form under a certain category...and..eh..waiting to see if they choose you.

Actually, there is more to it than that, much more and I can't do it justice enough here, so why not click on the link to the right and see their site for a much better explanation.

My World Trip

In 2003 I travelled to New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Stockholm and London courtesy of the Winston Churchill Trust.

I wanted to investigate the effects of Intellectual property legislation and case law on small businesses. The report about that trip is here

The Travel Agents - Espresso Mondo

I was finally convinced that a travel agency was a good idea. Why? Well travel is big business. Internet travel is also big business but High Street travel agents are not embracing it as they should. So Graham convinced me that we should build a new type of travel agents and provide better service to people who want an agent or an internet booking done for them.

We opened in The New Royal infirmary in Edinburgh in June. Why a hospital? Well, there are over 5,000 staff and the main reason we opened there is that the staff are in the middle of nowhere and we wanted to provide a facility that they would value at a reasonable price.

We opened another Travel Agency in Lothian Road in Edinburgh on the 1st of September and at 348 Morningside Road, Edinburgh in October.

As of March 2006 the agency in the Hospital has closed...not enough business and the one in Lothian Road inside the cafe closed as well. So much for taking a chance!

However, Morningside Road has beaten all expectations and is doing incredibly well.
